God says He will grant us the desires of our hearts, not our minds. Our minds may desire a great many things - our minds may desire what the flesh craves but our hearts are the root of the mind's fruit - it is with our hearts that we love or lust. We hate or hurt with our hearts. Our hearts are like a deep pond. Hurts are like stones dropped into the pond - whose ripples are felt through our minds. If we hate, we do it from our hearts - and do we not commit murder when we do? Because the life of Christ flows through His love for us - and it is with our hearts that we love (or lust). The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts - that it may then flow out of us to another's heart. Hate dams the flow of God's love  therefore life is cut off from the other, and once we murder them spiritually,  it becomes easy to committ all manner of sins against them and we justify ourselves while doing it. I've seen it happen many times - hate causes a heart to cut off the flow of love. They stop fellowshipping with the one they've chosen to hate. They begin to spread rumors and lies about them trying to get others to agree with their hatefullness. They villify the one they hate, thinking to themselves, if enough people agree with me, i can't be wrong, can i?
