How can there be a single starving person on the earth today? We are the best fed generation in history. In America, we eat to excess. Our restaurants alone throw away enough food each day to feed the planet's hungry. The problem isn't a lack of food, it's a lack of love. The love Babylon espouses is love of money (self), not people. It's a ME First generation. In Babylon, if you can't afford it, even basic necessities like food, you don't get it. In God's Kingdom everyone is well cared for, regardless of position or circumstance. Love compels those who have to give to those who have not. God constantly reminds us, from cover to cover, to remember and care for the poor. For though we may be rich in worldly goods, we are all poor in spirit until our generous heavenly Father shares His.
There is a popular song that exhorts the poor to say "I am rich", but we should also exhort the rich to say "I am poor"! "Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: but the rich, in that he is made low" "having food and raiment, let us therewith be content - but they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and hurtful lusts". Rather than seeking to become rich in money and possessions, let's be rich in good works. "But the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie still, that the poor of thy people may eat" "Neither shall you gather every grape of your vineyard, you shall leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God."
"The Lord makes the poor, and makes the rich: he brings low and lifts up. He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes and to make them inherit the throne of glory" (remember the beggar Lazarus and the nameless rich man?)
"He saves the poor from the sword.....so the poor have hope". "You are the helper of the fatherless" "This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him our of all his troubles"
"He that despises his neighbor sins, but he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he"
"whoso mocks the poor reproaches His maker"
"the rich and the poor meet together: the LORD is the Maker of them all"
"When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them"
"Go and show John again those things you do hear and see: FOR THE POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM"
IF  these scriptures are not enough to move you to care for the poor, nothing will....ask the Lord right now how you can be a blessing to someone less fortunate than yourself. Then go and DO something! It may be money but it may also be food, or shelter, or your very own home you give in sacrifice to the Lord.....it's up to Him, not you.....
